Extension Idea - Automated Publishing

This page describes an Extension Idea. Do not assume that the examples you see here will work with your version of Radiant.

Synopsis

Although there is a tag-based way to accomplish automated (date-based) publishing, it’s not quite the same as controlling this at the page level. The tag-based way is not simple enough for the typical layperson for whom I will design a site; trust me, the second I start describing how to add these tags (simple as they are) I’ll be faced with a blank stare, a gapping mouth, and silence. Furthermore, the tag-way (which can be useful) encompasses a bit of content and not a full page and all its parts.

Additionally, by adding effective and expiration dates to the page itself, we gain more flexibility from the children:last and children:first tags. Effectively, as time passes these tags will retrieve different content. This makes it easier to the layperson who wants to enter future content that won’t necessarily display immediately.
